Scripps Ranch was developed by a businessman named E.W. Scripps who was in the newspaper industry. He and his half-sister, Ellen Browning Scripps, bought 400 acres of beautiful countryside of rolling hills and groves of eucalyptus and pines in 1890 and started to develop the land. Nearby is the Miramar Lake for families to go and enjoy fishing and picnicking. There are lots of open space in Scripps Ranch for family parks, golf courses, ball fields and natural trails. Scripps Ranch is home to the annual Scripps Ranch Fourth-of-July Run and Ride. Runners and walkers can choose from a 10K race around Lake Miramar or a 2-mile Fun Run.
