Travel to the southwest edge of America and you will end up here in San Diego California. San Diego is nestled in between the Anza-Borrego Desert, the Mexican Border, the Pacific Ocean, and the Orange County-Los Angeles sprawl. San Diego is our nation's seventh largest city residing 1.25 million people with the county of San Diego residing 2.9 million. San Diego County is comprised of 18 incorporated cities, the largest being the City of San Diego.
For centuries, dating back to 9000 B.C., this area belonged to the Southern California coastal region's first Americans, now called the San Dieguito. These San Dieguito were descended from Asians who crossed the land bridge in the Bering Strait in search of game. It wasn't until Alonzo Horton in 1867 first came to San Diego buying 960 acres that the city started to thrive.
There are many attractions in San Diego that one can visit. Scroll through one of the cities greatest attractions, Balboa Park, on a lazy afternoon before heading downtown to have some fun and excitement. Come join us for a hotdog and cheer on the San Diego Padres at San Diego's new baseball stadium, Petco Park. Located just a couple of blocks from Petco Park is the Gaslamp District. The Gaslamp District is in the heart of San Diego which provide restaurants, shops, and dance clubs that stay open past midnight. Wake up in the morning with Shamu, the killer whale, and have some fun at Sea World. But ultimately, San Diego's heart is at the beaches. Roller blade down the Mission Beach Boardwalk, or go ride the waves on your surfboard in Ocean Beach. And don't forget to get a taste of Mexico just south of the border in Tijuana.
